The owners working with a blank canvas built their house overlooking Samford Valley and beyond to Moreton Bay, in a linear design with a perfect North East aspect allowing almost every room to capture the prevailing breezes and to take full advantage of the panoramic view.  The residence was sited away from the main road for privacy and now the mature landscaping contributes to this sense of seclusion as planned.

The design brief also required that most entertainment spaces be large yet intimate allowing for small dinner parties or large gatherings as required. The guests would then spill out from the living spaces to various large decks strategically positioned to take in the surrounding bushland and stunning views.
The designed interplay of spaces and open planning allows for visual connection of spaces, for example, the dining room table setting is able to be viewed by guests entertained on the living room deck.   This attention to detail is implicit in the design throughout the whole house.

The natural ventilation of all spaces negates the need of air conditioning for 11 months of the year. On steamy still nights, air conditioning is available throughout first floor, whilst on winter nights a large fireplace provides ducted warm air throughout.  The spaces are large and high ceilings have been created in these rooms. The pool has also been designed with the environment in mind by creating a knife edge and frameless glass fencing to the valley side causing the least obstruction of the view.

The treated timber residence was broken into smaller units allowing light and shade to simulate the play of light on trees and foliage, and to merge sympathetically with the surrounding eucalypt forest.  The low pitched roofs were designed to allow for easy cleaning and access to gutters, a necessity in the bush and for the efficient harvesting of rainwater. All external and internal colours and finishes have been borrowed from the surrounding environment.
